Pros
You receive a monthly metrocard, not great insurance, and $13 for lunch. You can work from home a few times a week if you barter for a less-desirable metrocard. It's a great place to get high standards ingrained in your head, which does pay off when you leave. The founders are lovely people, but I very often wondered if they knew how badly their employees were treated at times. I made really great friends working here, though, and I'm extremely grateful for that!
Cons
There's little upward mobility in positions unless you play the game hardcore for it. That, or if a bunch of people get laid off, or someone quits. Don't expect honest salary increases, but do expect more work! Reasoning behind no salary increases usually involves being at the top of your pay grade, even when you make the same as an employee with the same position did two years earlier. Another reason behind no compensation increase is because additional work you're assigned supposedly falls into "the job description." The compensation structure is absolutely flawed, and you will not make market value for your position. Overtime has been sketchy for years - management rarely asks you to log hours so you can be compensated accordingly. Each department is consistently treated differently than others. This appears in places as small as how strict your manager is to as complex as trips and dinners only given to certain departments. Policies are often made up on the fly and as they need to be addressed, while hiring happens preemptively in anticipation of business that never happens. Management positions were often given to people with no management experience or training, which lead to disastrous decisions. The business and marketing strategy is questionable. Oh also, you won't get a 401k because they just don't have the money for it.
