Pros

The offices are beautiful, the people are mostly smart, the pay is decent and the work is hybrid for now. Some managers and directors are great but too many are not. I made some great friends and connections. Benefits are top notch too.

Cons

It’s a very white-boys-club environment. The (white) women will say it’s a great place for woman but ask any person of color and they will give you a whole different story. The sales team is a mess, disorganized, cutthroat. The company is going through change but what they say on paper about supporting DEI is not supported at all. Many don’t know processes or the rules keep changing and there are too many programs. They are also pushing away from remote work. Also work life balance is awful at the end of the month and end of quarter.

DEI is a top priority at Braze. We are taking an inclusion-first approach to DEI, which means that we're designing DEI into our relevant business processes. The first business processes that we're focused on are hiring and manager training. We believe that this will have the best long-term impact. We have taken a step to be more transparent in this direction, publishing our first DEI data externally in our inaugural ESG report (https://www.braze.com/esg-report). Braze also has employee resource groups (ERGs) to support various protected and underrepresented groups. We have plans this year to better align and support ERGs, as they're an important part of Braze culture. DEI is an ever-evolving journey, and we will continually look to improve each year to achieve our goal of being an inclusive workplace. Regarding the working conditions mentioned in the blog post, most employees are hybrid, and office designation is at the discretion of one’s department. A majority of our employees are on go-to-market teams, which can expect busy seasons at the end of each quarter, pending progress on their individual goals.

Pros

Braze has a good product. Comp is average to slightly below average for the industry. A lot of smart people pass through the doors of Braze. Most of them don't last long.

Cons

Product: Between legacy tech companies moving into customer engagement and smaller startups with similar / cheaper products, Braze's future looks pretty bleak. Equity: Braze's stock price has been in free fall for more than a year and is still overvalued at $20. Your equity might be worthless by the time you vest. Career growth: Internal promotions are few and far between and are never based on quality of work or merit. More often than not, people with no understanding of the product or industry are hired to manage long-tenured experts who didn't need managing in the first place. Culture: High achieving, competent people at Braze are seen as a threat to leadership. They eventually get fed up and leave because they can't get promoted or are forced to answer to managers that were hired over them for jobs they deserved. When they leave, they take their expertise to competitors or other industries and 3 or 4 people are usually needed to do the work they leave behind. Leadership: Braze churns through VPs + middle management at an alarming clip. Great leaders quit because they're not prepared for the micromanagement they endure and can't actually get anything done. The ones that seem to stick were only hired because they worked at Zendesk w/ the CBO or at Salesforce with someone in the Sales org. Not because they have relevant management experience, understand strategy, or the product.
