Pros

-The para-educators are more than qualified, very helpful and the school could not run without them. -Most of the teachers and staff are fantastic and will help and encourage you. There's a good environment amongst the teachers to give advice and work together to create a community.

Cons

-A lot of favoritism/nepotism. All of the people friends with/related to the administration get paid more, regardless of experience. -If you're not one of the favorites, you will not get basic supplies that you need. I was told in the interview that I would be given a curriculum and that never happened (regardless of how much I asked), so I had to make my own from scratch. At the end of the year, they said my curriculum was terrible, and questioned whether I was fit for the job in the first place. -The principal is the kind of boss that won't fire you, but will put you in uncomfortable situations on purpose to try to get you to quit. And it happens a lot. At the end of the year, in the middle of my lesson, one of the students raised their hand and asked if I was going to get fired. I said "no, why would you think that?" and they responded "well, the one before you was fired, and the one before that, too." -In addition to not getting a curriculum, I also never got a desk from administration. I had to do all of my work in the staff room until one of the para-educators offered to give me a spare desk from their classroom. Every time I asked the vice principal about it, the response was always "I'll get back to you on that" or "I'll look into it". -They don't update their teachers enough about what is going on. I didn't realize until the end of the year that the school had a problem with people ubering to the school to watch the kids on the playground, and had I known the whole time, I would've made an effort to keep an eye out for it and report it to the police. -The school actively makes an effort to make sure not all of the staff are trained to do concussion checks. In a meeting we had just before summer, someone asked if we could have additional teachers trained since summer camps tended to be more hectic than the school year. The principal said "no, it just makes it more complicated if more than 3 staff members are able to do it. -During the end of COVID, there was a part of the year where so many staff got sick, that the teachers ended up doing twice the work. At one point, I had to stop teaching my classes to sub for another teacher. Administration handed the situation so poorly that many teachers were calling out due to overwork and eventually, they temporarily closed the school due to limited staffing. -The staff will not work with you on anything. Due to the nature of the job, we were exposed to COVID a lot. I had COVID earlier in the year, but got it again the following summer. I was so sick I could barely stand up, and when I got to the front desk, they refused to give me a COVID test because they said I had it too recently and that I couldn't go home. I ended up having to go home anyway because I was too sick to do anything, and sure enough, when I got home, the test was positive.

Pros

Great staff and great students

Cons

Management was vague, did not accurately submit info to CRA for tax purposes, which caused a huge mess for me personally.
