Pros
As a minister, chaplain for city police, county sheriff department and local city chaplain, I have a heart for serving other people and families especially in their time of crisis. It’s definitely a calling but being able to work and serve as a hospice chaplain/SCC/bereavement coordinator I’m able to expand my ministry and take being a chaplain to a whole new level. I have always wanted to be able to work & serve as a hospice chaplain because I know there are so many people/families who are struggling and hurting and I wanted to get involved and help meet their spiritual needs. My attitude is summed up in a song that simply says, “Give me the heart of a servant, tender and faithful and true; fill me with love, then use me, Oh Lord; so that the world can see you.” BRH is the best, most compassionate and loving hospice company and I get to be apart of the local team and experience the love, sympathy, compassion, helpfulness and kindness of all our team members. Serving as SCC allows me to see more than the average person and go behind the scenes into the most difficult and painful times in the lives of other people. Being a minister, servant, and hospice chaplain is even more than a calling, it’s literally who I am and what God created me to be a do for His glory. I have never worked with and for a company as wonderful, helpful, encouraging and loving as Bristol/Dayspring. The willingness to help new employees learn and grow, feeling valued and appreciated on a daily basis is extremely motivating to want to always go above and beyond, to be a team player.
Cons
The only “con” is being there when a patient passes away. That’s always hard on my heart and emotionally draining but it’s just a part of life and part of being a hospice chaplain but also at the same time it’s why I love doing what I get to do and that’s to be there with and for someone and their family in that extremely painful time of grief and to be able to serve them and help them. Other than the emotional pain experienced when a patient dies is honestly the only “con” I can think of.
