Pros

The staff are very caring people.

Cons

Workload is unbearable. Management expects you to perform miracles every single day. The new CEO is even worse than the old one. Salaries are a joke. Employees are under appreciated. Horrible benefits.

Thank you for the review. We are so glad you found the pay and our community events to be a highlight of your summer. Our events are a big part of how we stay connected to the 'neighbors helping neighbors' spirit that defines BCS. We understand and appreciate your feedback regarding the pace of the work. Summer internships often have a specific, short-term focus to ensure projects are completed within the season. However, our year-round employment is much more multifaceted and engaging, offering a constant variety of work and deeper opportunities for Innovation & Learning. We hope the experience gave you a valuable look at how a large nonprofit operates. We wish you the absolute best of luck with your studies and your future career.

Thank you for sharing your feedback and for recognizing the tangible value that our helpful and healing work brings to the communities we serve. We completely agree that the mission of Brooklyn Community Services is vital, and we appreciate the perspective you bring as an Office Manager. We acknowledge your concerns regarding compensation. We are acutely aware of the challenges of nonprofit funding, which is why BCS is an active and vocal supporter of the #JustPay campaign to fight for sector-wide wage equity. Internally, we are continuously reviewing our compensation models and structures to find sustainable ways to better reward our staff's expertise and growing responsibilities. Regarding your feedback on leadership and support, we view giving staff the autonomy and responsibility to do their work as a deep sign of trust, but we know that trust must be backed by systemic support. As a large and growing organization, we utilize division-level tools and resources to help our teams manage workloads. To strengthen this framework, we have recently hired new division leaders to provide more consistent guidance. It is worth noting that because our 30 programs span different models, operations and day-to-day experiences can vary based on specific funder mandates. We are fully committed to providing the tangible changes and support systems our teams need to thrive. If you are open to it, we would value the chance to discuss your ideas for program outcomes and internal growth further—please feel free to reach out to our HR team directly.
