Pros

There are some intelligent, caring and dedicated staff at all levels of the organization. The housing and residential programs generally seem to be well-managed. Compared to some other organizations I have worked for, Buckelew does much better when it comes to having thorough policies and procedures. Some employees complained about all the paperwork and forms, but overall, I think they were helpful. There were new senior management positions created and this seems related to expansion plans. I have heard good things about the new executive director from current employees, but I left before she was hired.

Cons

There is a wide variation in terms of how individual programs are managed. I worked at an organization that merged with Buckelew and I feel the program quality went way down after the merger. This seems partly due to financial issues and partly due to the fact that many aspects of the merger were handled poorly. Our program received some generous donations and there was a lot of internal strife over how those donated funds were to be used. A lot of people quit right before I left. There has been very high turnover. Some programs are in bad shape financially, while others seem to do well. There were a few program managers who seemed obviously problematic, based on casual observation at various meetings. I am not sure how those people came to be hired/promoted or what kind of monitoring/review they receive. There was an interim executive director in place when I left and she seemed pretty unprofessional in many different ways.

Pros

Buckelew Programs is a mental health service agency which focuses on their clients and employees in a whole-hearted manner. There's always someone there to help where it's needed. Highly recommend!

Cons

Pay is always a concern with nonprofits.

Pros

Benefits. Ok for entry level. Would put no stars if possible

Cons

Their Director Team is a bad mess, and its not even good. They assign too much work to their new employees and the Directors dont do anything but sit around at their desks waiting for a client. I dont know why these people work in a place where the residents of Marin live, they dont even live around here. They also dont know how to be culturally humble with the local Mexican and Asian residents who are long time residents in Lake and Marin county. Basically the Directors cant tell any of the residents whom they are serving where the homeless shelters and food pantry is or where they can send their clients for financial help, They like to drug their clients instead of resourcing them. Its not a good place to work at if you care about your neighbor. Would give no stars to the Directors. Chris the business CEO better read this.
