Pros
- Some genuinely great people to work with. - If you can stick it here for a few years, and see out a large project successfully, you will gain good experience which puts you in good stead to move onto a more progressive company. - Above average pay, which goes a tiny way to compensate for being so over worked.
Cons
- No office in the NW. Instead, BGCL have a row of a dozen desks in client's office, all of which are occupied by management. This tight-fisted policy meant that one has to work in the client canteen all day. Very poor, and ultimately, short-sighted. - Absolutely dreadful work-life balance, the worst I have ever experienced in my 20 year career, and that is saying something! BGCL employ far too few people, meaning the work load is awful. Initially, I thought it might just by me, but it soon became apparent that this is a common theme in this culture. Most nights I would be bombarded with emails up to 11pm each night. The workload was so high, that you were expected, and indeed I had to, work into most evenings and even over weekends just to keep my head above water. Problem is, BGCL don't like paying people for this overtime, they expect it for free. - Lots of time, effort and money spent on sending employees on all day safety courses, commendable, but on the other hand, my project office is equipped with awful chairs, nearly all of which are broken, meaning no back support. BGCL again too tight-fisted to supply adequate seating, which seems at odds with their "All Ways Safely" culture. - Instead of employing enough people, you WILL be expected to take up many duties which should be the duties of another role.
