Pros

• You get to see an idea come to life and become a real business. A business that makes an impact (after working in a service/consulting company for years, this is really significant for me). • You get to see the team grow and the culture being created. • You get to work with smart and dedicated people. Teammates are friendly and supportive. • When there is a problem you can count on all-hands-on-deck. No finger-pointing. • You get a LOT of autonomy and responsibility. • Good work and results get recognized • Your work actually has an impact on the product and on the business. • Remote work friendly

Cons

It’s a startup. It's a roller coaster ride. • You have to work with changing and incomplete input and still make (mostly) the right decisions. • Situation is in constant flux. What was a valid assumption yesterday, is not valid any more today. And you have to adapt. • Either you bring results, or you learn fast (hard work is implied). No third option. • It’s a startup. If you need a stable 9-5 job, better look for a job in a bank. The team is remote/distributed and communication is a challenge. With COVID-19 and inability to travel, the challenge is even greater. I hope it’s a temporary setback.

Pros

In Built-ID I worked with like-minded group of people that share the same goal – building a social-impact product that helps both the clients and end customers. I worked as part of the remote development team, while working closely with the management team to deliver new components for company's main product. During my few years at Built-ID I worked closely with different employees of the company – from the development team, over management and accounts, media and PR. Working in a startup can sometimes be stressful, but during my time at Built-ID I didn't have a single bad experience. On the contrary. I was personally in a bad emotional phase (with my ex-wife not allowing me to see my kid) and everyone at Built-ID was super helpful and really invested in making my time there much easier.

Cons

Like in every startup, working at Built-ID can be hectic at times but if you have a can-do attitude and don't accept no for an answer – you'll do just fine :).
