Pros

Bulletproof is a company that really is like a tribe; we have lots of personality and our own way of doing things. We are privately owned by the two co-founders who are still closely involved in the business every single day and are just as passionate as the people who work for them. They are hugely caring, flexible and supportive of the team - especially through difficult personal times. The vibe is urban, fun, energetic and driven. There is lots of opportunity to grow within Bulletproof (in fact it is encouraged) but as would be expected anywhere, you have to prove yourself worthy first. Regular teamwork means that you always feel supported and connected across the company. This is the best place I've worked for a sensible work/life balance but I know that balance is different across departments. Daily scheduling updates means that work is achieved at a considered pace - that isn't to say it is 'leisurely'. This is a place for people who are hungry and passionate about the design industry; I've known receptionists who have worked their way up to Junior Strategists and interns who have become beloved designers. The company respects you as an individual too, I’ve carried on doing freelance illustration work outside of Bulletproof and everyone has been nothing but supportive and encouraging. Plus, the whole company gets taken on an annual work holiday (usually a European city) - London, New York and Singapore offices combined! In addition to organised social gatherings both in and out of the studio.

Cons

Not everyone is a Bulletproofer. The best Bulletproofers can walk the line of having down-to-earth and distinctively bold, playful personalities whilst being professional and talented. Finding that balance is not easy for everyone. I joined during a period of high growth and at the same time a lot of people were let go - many went on to jobs that suited them infinitely better and made them much happier. Being a Bulletproofer isn’t for everyone. Juniors sometimes struggle as they are thrown in the deep end and required to commit, deliver and to work hard. They don't always receive the mentoring required as everyone is working hard to produce the best work for our briefs. Work can often be produced at a highly energetic pace, so you can't sit on your laurels or procrastinate at Bulletproof! We are all about ‘getting stuff done’. Our clients are predominantly FMCG and alcohol so an understanding of these categories and the type of design this requires is essential.
