Pros

Great tips, excellent food, and sustainable burgers are creative and niche. For the most part, open-minded and easy-going staff that generally have a positive attitude Request off is most often granted if given two weeks notice With a large number of staff, it is usually easy to find someone to cover your shift if need be, and there are usually some shifts to be picked up if you're looking for more hours.

Cons

The owner is frugal, oblivious, and DISCRIMINATORY. She refuses to hire "older" staff because they do not fit her desire for the vibe to be "hip and youthful." She also pushes her employees to identify the patrons using binary gender pronouns. She is working on making new t-shirts for her staff, in which females are to wear v-necks, and males are to wear crew necks. This is not all-inclusive of various personal identities. The greater Richmond area thrives on diversity and progressiveness, which are not aspects of the community that the owner seems to support. Burger Bach recently expanded to a newer/bigger location. Staff were told that the process would take one week (of leave), however that one week turned into almost one month. This left many people out of work, a few people resigned, and workers received no compensation, apology, or appreciation for their dedication and their time throughout the entire moving process. False promises. Management does not release weekly schedule in a timely manner (often times with less than 24-48 hours notice of an employees next shift). This leaves a lot of employees frantic and wholly dedicated to potential shifts they may have to work in the near future. Management heavily plays favorites. The mistakes of FOH members who are on personal levels with management are often overlooked, while other FOH members' rare mistakes are scrutinized. Management also gossips excessively. Their immediate negative feelings toward a situation often results in them reflecting on the team members' character as a person, which is quite irrational and unfair. Management occasionally praises employees for good work, however this never overrides the favoritism. It is very difficult for new staff to "move up" the food chain because of their distrust in their staff. Management is unprofessional because there is no disciplinary action for employees who have walked-out/ no-show. Also the re-hiring of people who have previously left. Previous staff who have come back to work here have immediate seniority, and are not accommodating to the ongoing development of Burger Bach. For a burger joint that claims to be sustainable, the least the owner could do is invest in some recycling bins. All drinks (besides bar drinks & tea/espresso) are bottled. The "real sugar" stuff is good, but there are no refills, and when a customer wants another beverage, they are paying $6 for two bottled drinks that end up right in the trash. The owner clearly does not prioritize the more primitive elements of sustainability, and do not find the costs or obstacles to be worth it. You must be able to work in a highly disorganized, highly stressed environment.
