Pros

Buyagift was a great place to work prior to its merger with Moonpig. Lovely, hardworking people and a great culture.

Cons

After the acquisition morale decreased until it was at an all time low. Long serving, loyal employees left or were pushed out and not replaced, and teams went through endless restructures (read: constant redundancies). Quite often management wouldn't even announce when someone had been let go and they'd just disappear one day. What's more troubling is that almost all of the redundancies on the last few years have been women who are already mothers, pregnant, or on maternity leave when they're made redundant. Buyagift has shown time and time again that it does not prioritize the well-being of its female staff and will discard them at the drop of a hat if they become inconvenient to their bottom line. To women applying for a job here: be wary. To the Moonpig group and Buyagift: do better. It's 2024.

Pros

Hybrid working 2 days in the office

Cons

Overall, I would not recommend the online trading team to anyone looking for supportive management, strong development, or a culture that values wellbeing and appreciation. Poor management within the online trading team. Very limited autonomy, a heavy level of micromanagement, and a lack of clarity. This creates a difficult and demotivating day-to-day experience. This atmosphere has contributed to high turnover within the online trading team. The online trading team and company culture is poor and disconnected. There is no appreciation or recognition, little sense of team cohesion, and not much effort made to create a positive or welcoming environment. There is also very little collaboration culture in practice. Information often feels tightly controlled, and team members are not given enough opportunity to work directly with other functions or take ownership of broader projects. The online trading team also relies on outdated and clunky tools, which makes routine tasks more time-consuming and inefficient than they need to be. HR response times are also extremely poor, even on important matters such as payroll, pension, and contracts. Leadership and direction feel lacking, particularly during the transition following the Moonpig merger, with ongoing uncertainty across the Experiences side of the business. Onboarding is weak, with no effort made to properly integrate new starters into the wider team.
