Immoral and immature ethos - Customer Relationship Manager Bytes Technology Group Employee Review

Pros

There is nothing good to say about Bytes. The company retain staff by throwing parties and alcohol at their employees rather than looking after their wellbeing. Not to mention they have bar Fridays where they only let you finish work early if you’re willing to go to the bar, not a great message to send especially to a very young workforce who then often have to drive after their ‘bar’ visit.

Cons

Not only do they lie to employees about their salaries, Bytes have a very immoral way of assigning salaries with the men often having a higher salary than the women doing the same job with the same title. The recruitment agency Bytes use lie to potential candidates enticing them with a higher salary until you start and sign the contract and you are given the minimum with no room for an increase even after probation. Bytes lie to their employees saying that they can get an increase in pay after probation and then often don’t grant this. Not to mention they have a strict “don’t talk about your pay” policy with your colleagues which is only in place as they know there is great disparity between salaries across employees doing the exact same role. The company on a whole has a very immature and unprofessional atmosphere with the majority of employees coming straight out of college (one in particular is the Howard of Effingham) and join Bytes with their friends to party. This is not a place for educated individuals/graduates looking to start their careers and there is very little progression within the company. The management staff are also very unprofessional with very little management skills leading to teams that are over worked and stressed with a lot of manager employee conflict. This company feels more like a school and I encourage you to not be persuaded by the benefits as once you are there these seem to be an empty promise.

Bytes Technology Group Response

I would like to thank you for raising your concerns. We are addressing many areas around the business but do not feel that we retain our employee base simply by holding parties. This is a twice a year bonus for our hard working team members to be seen as a reward and a time to relax and get to know other departments. We know that we have growing pains, with a rapidly increasing workforce who are coming into the business at various levels and we have already made changes to many policies to try and enhance what was already in place. It sounds like you have had a poor experience in a particular role and I would be happy to work directly to resolve those privately, away from a generic board where messages such as this can cause concern without evidence of any wrong doing. The word Toxic evokes a workplace that has little or no regard for their employees, where as we have recently been voted as a Great Place to work via an external audit and received accolades relating to our women in technology advancements. I am always saddened to see that a person leaving the organisation has not taken the opportunity to directly speak to us or anonymously notify HR of issues so that we can take action. Salary data is always sacrosanct and Gender Parity is key for us. For this reason we are changing our way of working to allow salary data to be shared openly in any role that has been through the Career Pathways programme and shows a very clear path to reach next level of responsibility and salary. However, we are not a Public Sector organisation and will never entirely "Band" Salaries for people. Salary is paid according to the role a person undertakes, the level of knowledge and or experience and the grading where assigned. It is NEVER assigned on the basis of being Male or Female. Our mantra of Growing Great People to Deliver amazing things remains and is born out by the consistent development, support, coaching and training provided to each person. There is also an element of each person being responsible, to an extent, for their own personal growth. Should you wish to speak to us directly about your concerns please direct them to HR.

Pros

Great atmosphere and management. Love working with every one of my coworkers.

Cons

Can be exhausting with customer complaints, especially since most of them are complaints directed at other departments that are taken out on us.

Pros

Great colleagues with a lot of knowledge and very willing to help, company and team events a lot of fun

Cons

Significant changes were decided above us then imposed as non-negotiable, aka this is what's happening whether you like it or not, suck it up and move on. Pay is nowhere near reflective of the amount of work that needs putting in. My department only got yearly bonus due to an administrative error by a director, the FY26 bonus structure itself was worsened significantly. New systems have been spoken about for a long time but the rollout is forever delayed.
