Pros

At CPH structural engineering there is the small company feel, the one where you get excited about because its usually the best companies to work for. The admin staff are absolutely exceptional, the drafters work their tails off and the EITs are overworked & underappreciated but overall the staff themselves are the best part of the company, with the exception of one.

Cons

Unfortunately the saying is true, often good and even great employees leave companies based off of management and this couldn't be more true for CPH. Going into this position with promises of one thing, led to another and at the end of 2 weeks, it was becoming more and more warranted that I was hired for something completely different that I even remotely signed up & interviewed for. The CEO/PE is the brunt of the problem and the reason he cant keep good employees, the degrading comments, the yelling at employees, the talking about other employees to project managers. When one employee has an issue, the entire office will know about it due to the open office concept, there is no privacy. The cursing about employees doing something wrong, not meeting deadlines, I could sit here all day and tell you all the problems within the one person, but I wont. Just know, the owner/CEO/PE its one person and he is the problem within the company. The reason there is EITs still there is because that is all they have known, why they don't seek out other opportunities is beyond me, but they truly deserve better. Outside the office at company events which are held twice a year, the CEO/owner/PE is AWESOME but that's all. Inside the office, the pay is ridiculously low, the work is a massive pile that compiles to be things you were not even hired to do all because owner does not trust others to do it. The guy even speaks to his wife in the most degrading way in front of other employees and then directly to project managers about her inabilities to do things, making fun of her grammar, making fun of her "forgetting" to do things even though she has done them. The lady can not even order pens without approval from him. Micromanaging at its finest is his true definition. He only wants to be spoken to certain times of the day by " the ones who are on the lower end of the totem pole " and his project managers who are not engineers, are just engineers in training are referred to as "the kings" ultimately making everyone in that office look and feel like peasants. The problem within this company is only the one person, which sadly this one person is molding one of the EITs to be a replica of himself, which is concerning. Lastly, the ways he wants things done change every single week, one week he will say to create a proposal this way and then next week you will get ridiculed and yelled at for doing it that way but he did not like it this week so he yells at you and makes you feel the size of an ant.

Cons

You have to experience it to see if you are a fit for this industry and this company's high expectations atmosphere, but if you are not capable, it is not for you.

Pros

I learned so much during my internship. I really enjoyed the work I was doing and think this was very good experience for this field.

Cons

The company atmosphere was not what I expected or wanted. I didn't enjoy going to work everyday because of the stress level and I felt like I was respected as a woman engineer.
