Pros

If you are willing to keep your head down, work hard, and go along with the established culture, there can be opportunities to succeed here. Strong work ethic is generally recognized and rewarded, and there are good people throughout the organization.

Cons

The culture often felt fear-based rather than trust-based. Many employees felt a constant sense of job insecurity, creating an environment where people were hesitant to speak up, ask difficult questions, or offer constructive feedback. In my experience, those who challenged decisions or voiced concerns were often viewed unfavorably, while those who simply went along with the status quo tended to have a smoother path. Hard work was recognized, but open communication and differing perspectives did not always seem equally valued.

Pros

There were a handful of people I really enjoyed working with who seemed authentically nice and competent. There was plenty of free caffeine and food to keep you going. Initially the practice of compliments and shoutouts felt good, albeit somewhat vacuous.

Cons

I was really excited to work here in the beginning. They highlight the fact that they hire a lot of women, have great benefits and perks, and have a lot of workplace awards listed on their website. I assumed this might correlate to a somewhat progressive culture, but the office ended up feeling like an early aughts hustle culture corporation with regressive policies and not much room for diversity or flexibility. In my opinion there was really inappropriate and insensitive behavior by tenured coworkers in the office. It felt like there was a concerted effort to create instability and fear by way of abruptly dismissing employees regardless of how it affected the rest of the team. Events and marketing seemed to spend a lot of time propping up leadership’s podcasting/writing career, rather than anything to do with the company objectives. I felt like the public shaming rituals at company events were over the top at best, if not exploitative. I also thought it was odd that I was prompted to write a Glassdoor review literally days after being hired. Aside from the office environment, multiple friends in construction have informed me of their reputation on builds and job sites. It often seemed like there was so much weight on building as many houses as possible as fast as possible over other goals. Infer what you will with that information.

Thanks for your feedback! We truly believe in a "Work Hard, Play Hard" culture and strive for a healthy work-life balance for all our team members. Building 28,000 homes in 33 years means we move fast! We're especially proud that 70% of our diverse team is female, which is unique in the construction industry. This includes our Vice President, who expertly balances leading our incredible company with being a best-selling author and podcaster. While we can't account for every individual's behavior, our company motto is "Love Wins," and we consistently work to promote this value among all employees. Our company events are specifically designed to celebrate our employees and ensure everyone has a great time! It's unfortunate that our company wasn't the right fit for you, but we sincerely wish you all the best in your future endeavors!
