Pros
Brilliant, passionate, and compassionate coworkers with remarkable credentials tackle the world's most pressing environmental problems. The work is thrilling, fulfilling, and coworkers are both smart and a pleasure to work with. Small team means a lot of autonomy; the management structure is relatively flat, so staff at all levels do research, drafting, presenting, and project management. Management cares a lot about staff and actively seeks out opportunities to enrich and engage them. Benefits (healthcare, commuters checks, etc.) are wonderful for a small non-tech firm.
Cons
Of course, in the mission-driven sector, compensation is relatively low. Although CEA pays a reasonable salary, living in the Bay Area is expensive. Given the industry, though, CEA is more than generous with compensation and management go out of their way to institute policies to make living in the Bay Area easier. Small firm can sometimes translate into a lack of information or management infrastructure, but it comes with all of the benefits of working for a small firm too.
