Pros

A door to the oil & gas industry. That’s it. Get in, get some experience, and get out asap. Use the experience to get a better position with one of many superior competitors. Be sure to negotiate the highest base salary possible since bonus and raises are not guaranteed (likely to be well below the inflation rate so you basically just get beer money, if anything) and promotions are rare.

Cons

Work-life balance is the biggest issue. Some groups are swamped with work, and they have some of the worst deadlines in the industry. Management makes decisions with very little thought or care to how much additional work it will put on employees. Many processes are out of date and inefficient as a lot of red tape has been added over the years. The daily work is quite stressful, often putting out proverbial fires and you know there’s always more fires coming tomorrow. Ridiculous closing deadlines were forced by the parent company, so I was hoping there might be some positive changes resulting from the 2019 sanctions. Nope, it’s been over three years and no extension of deadlines. Although the one major benefit from the sanctions is that they no longer have to deal with the incredibly poor communication from the parent company. Even though employees proved that they could successfully work from home during COVID, management refuses to offer a hybrid schedule option. At this point, working there feels like endless misery with no possibility of improvement.

Pros

The pay and health insurance benefits are pretty great.

Cons

12 hour shifts on a swing schedule. Company likes to blame hourly workers for every issue when company doesn't want to put money into their facility. Most managers aren't competent, the more idiotic a person, the more likely they are to become a manager. Good managers exist but tend to move up quickly (they deserve to) and they're replaced by the idiotic "yes" men. Overtime is abundant so expect not to get your days off.
