Cons
I had high hopes when I initially interviewed for a position with this company, as the role outlined seemed promising. However, upon accepting the offer, I quickly realized there was a significant discrepancy between what was presented during the interview and the reality of the job. First, the company asks for commitment during the peak tax season, but fails to adequately mention the grueling and unsustainable hours. While they technically compensate you for this extra time, the compensation is only in line with what is required by law, not out of any genuine appreciation for employees' time and effort. The lack of work-life balance is a major issue, with weeks on end of long hours and little to no time off. The management culture at this company is also deeply troubling. The partners of the business demonstrate a complete lack of respect for their staff. The behavior from senior members of the team is childish and unprofessional, with demands such as "Get me more pens" or "Come to my office," treating employees like subordinates rather than valued team members. This is especially concerning when these same individuals fail to take responsibility for their own actions, often blaming others when things go wrong, particularly in client relations. The office environment is toxic, with an atmosphere of manipulation and blame. For instance, staff handling tax information have been known to deliberately misdirect materials, creating unnecessary stress and drama among the team. This seems to be a pattern in a company where accountability is virtually nonexistent. There is also a distinct lack of professionalism in the overall work environment. Department Supervisors dress casually in a manner more suited to a college campus than a professional office. The culture feels stuck in the 1980s, where getting by with the bare minimum is somehow rewarded. Additionally, there is zero tolerance for personal phone use, making it incredibly difficult to handle personal emergencies, especially for those with families. HR practices are equally concerning. They appear to operate based on personal biases rather than a fair and objective evaluation of employees. If you find yourself on the wrong side of their opinion, be prepared to be micromanaged and given little to no support, leading to an eventual and unjustified termination. In conclusion, while there may be a handful of positive reviews, it is clear that these are likely written by those in hiring positions. I would strongly advise anyone considering this company to look elsewhere, as the work culture and management style are far from professional or supportive.
