Pros

Getting to meet and help new incoming students to CSUF was a fun and meaningful experience. I really got to bond with new students and my fellow orientation leaders

Cons

For the amount of work and hours were asked to we put in, it didn’t feel like we received adequate compensation. We were promised priority registration but do to some hr complications or some other reason it wasn’t able to happen. We were paid $15/hr for training (minimum wage at the time) in the spring but were only compensated with a $2500 scholarship for the whole summer. Mind you, we were asked to go in 4 times a week at 7am with days that typically ended around 5pm. This was not every week during the summer but were asked to work most of June and July. I think when other orientation leaders and I broke it down it came down to around $10/hr. We had debriefs after each orientation days with the all the orientations leaders, staff, and interns and during those debriefs it would occasionally feel like we were being nitpicked and like we weren’t doing enough. It eventually felt demoralizing after long days where we were doing our best to give our all and be positive welcoming faces that represented CSUF in the best light for new students
