Caesars Sportsbook: QA Practices needs improvement - QA Principal Caesars Entertainment Employee Review

Pros

The technology stack is impressive.

Cons

The below is for Caesars Sportsbook only. 1. Flat organization. Normally this is a good thing, but not when you are given a position with no formal authority: QA Principal. 2. You need to convince management to add unit tests. You literally need to do a benefit-cost analysis for your team to be able to write unit tests. 3. The position of QA Principal has no real authority. You need to convince people to follow best practices. This can be frustrating, especially when feature teams do not want to help with automation. 4. Important: During your interview with the organization you will not interview with the two main leaders you will be working with the most. This is done on purpose. I suggest at the end of the interview you ask whether or not you have met all the important people you will be working with. I am sure, if you were to interview with them it will influence your decision on whether or not to join the company. 5. For the first 3 months of your employment with the company, they will not pay health insurance. They mention they will reimburse you, but please notice the clawback clause. Kindly think as to why they have this practice in place. 6. Management had me reporting 4 times a week: One report on slack to the GM and his assistant on deliverables for the week. Two a Zoom meeting with the other heads in the org, on what the overall QA team will be delivering this week. Three an update on Tuesday, so that the GM can comment on whether or not I am doing a deliverable the way he wants to. And last, Friday, to report what you actually delivered.

Pros

Peers and teammates are supportive of each other. For a digital organization, the pay was very good but I believe they've significantly reduced salaries. Some of the managers were very good.

Cons

The Caesars Digital team operated in a flat organization, where some GMs were trying to actively manage teams of 75-150 individuals. Career growth is almost non-existent as a result. C-suite management was non-existent and came from finance or hospitality backgrounds. Org success was purely tied to annual EBITDA and without understanding of how a digital/engineering organization should be run, resulting in disconnected employees (most of whom were remote), lack of scalable structure, and zero oversight.
