Pros
- Remote position, work from home - Minimal student behavior - Lead Teacher was helpful - I was part of the 1st grade team and everyone was very friendly and willing to share resources (lesson plans, email templates, helpful YouTube videos, online games, etc.) I heard that other grade levels don't share/collaborate as much.
Cons
- Lessons are made up as you go, building from scratch or relying on other teachers' PowerPoints - Hyper focus on data and standards, not individualized learning - Mountains of paperwork daily and weekly (record keeping when contacting families every month, work samples for EVERY student for each quarter, SO MANY emails, weekly meetings, grading, etc.) - I'm very much a "type A person", super organized, but I was drowning with the amount of work that was expected - Having to keep track of students/parents who are not in compliance with the school policy and filling out reports (lengthy process to kick-out students who don't even show up to live classes) - Challenging to teach students who don't turn on their cameras - High achieving students seem very bored with the program/live instruction - Lots of students coming and going throughout the school year, it seems like enrollment was always open - On-boarding/training was very confusing. I was trained on things that didn't seem important like how to set-up my email and make folders to stay organized. But I wasn't given training on how to set-up/organize my live classes or what I should be teaching.
