Pros

- Shared experience with 80 people in your same position - Most people are very nice - State Benefits - Can promote within a few years - Makes you learn a lot about the state hiring process and promotions

Cons

- Worst training ever. They put you in a "training academy" for your first 3 months and then you get thrown into your job and don't have a clue how to do it. - Too much responsibilities and expectations for the amount you get paid - No overtime opportunities - Stressful - Everyone constantly complains how incompetent the jobs makes them feel - This is a job that requires a lot of analyzing and are things a person with a degree could not do. This is a hard job that is given to lower class people and people do the job because of the state benefits. There's not one person there that knows the answer to everything. You have to have very thick skin to work here or just not care about your life. - Perhaps being a PS is a better experience at a different state department.

Pros

* most executives and office chief leaderships are supportive and easy to talk to. * great diversity in the workplace, with many people from varying background being represented and promoted. * great work-life balance if you're a specialist.

Cons

* some senior branch chiefs end up working on weekends. * not specific to department, but state workers keep getting their raises cut.
