Lots of different units to laterally move into as a transportation engineer, rotation program to go through design and construction for a period of time, state benefits.
Cons
Once at Caltrans long enough, the pay only goes up depending on what the bargaining unit is able to negotiate for. You may go through teams where some people pull their weight more than others. Unfortunately that is how it is and may cause burn out quicker to those higher achievers currently.
