Pros

Nothing. The entire experience was abusive.

Cons

A Cambia recruiter reached out to me via LinkedIn. She gave me the hard sell on why I should apply for this one particular job at Cambia. I told her I was happy in my current job. She kept reaching out. So I thought, why not, I might as well throw my resume into the mix. After getting my resume, the recruiter doubled down on her efforts to get me to apply. So I did. When they offered me the job, I was still hesitant, because I was reasonably happy in my current position. I was a little bored, but overall, the pay was good and the work/life balance was good. She said, what if we throw in a signing bonus? I was like, really, wow, they clearly want me and my talent. I have two master's degrees and a really good track record in my field. Stupidly, I was seduced by money. From day 1, it was a nightmare. My immediate supervisor was super manipulative and gossipy. The Chief Medical Officer (CMO), to whom my supervisor reported was full on toxic. Narcissistic Personality Disorder with a touch of Borderline Personality Disorder. It was SO bad. At one point, another employee told me flat out, "You know why the CMO hates you? Because she's never made you cry in a meeting. It's a power thing." WTF? I'm way too experienced and been around the block too many times to cry in a meeting. Please. So, six months after they hired me, on the day before Trump declared the travel ban from Europe due to covid, they laid me off. They chased me, threw money at me, hired me, abused me, laid me off. I literally worked there for 6 months, and every day was emotional torture. I went to HR, and they were really uncomfortable. They gave me 6 months severance pay for 6 months of actual work, because they didn't want me to sue them. Fine with me. I am not interested in a legal battle with a corporation with deep pockets and a dozen employment lawyers at their disposal. TLDR: Beware of Cambia. My experience there was hellish.

Pros

Some of the smartest bright-minded people in IT work there, or used to. Decent pay and benefits.

Cons

The company appears to be in a constant state of reorganization, creating ongoing uncertainty about job security and contributing to low employee morale. This lack of stability has led to confusion, shifting priorities, and an overall lack of focus, which is reflected in the high turnover currently seen within the IT organization. This is especially disappointing because the company was once known for attracting and retaining IT professionals who built long, successful careers there. Leadership appears to lack a clear, unified vision, and that disconnect starts at the highest levels of the organization. Compared with the previous CEO, who despite his shortcomings was widely respected and viewed as an approachable leader, the current leadership feels much more removed from employees. There was once a stronger sense that executives understood and were connected to the day-to-day experiences of the workforce. Today, that connection feels significantly diminished, leaving many employees with the impression of a growing divide between the C-suite and the people doing the work. Honestly, it's quite sad what has happened to Cambia.
