Pros
Working at Winaukee has provided me with an awesome experience and working environment over the past several years. Like many summer camps it is an opportunity to "get away" from the mundane and routine and to immerse yourself in a beautiful setting with a rich history. Like many summer camps you are able to create friendships with people from all over the globe. However! Unlike other summer camps Winaukee provides a place where you feel that you are worthwhile and a part of something larger than yourself. It is a place where you can be you. My time at Winaukee has truly been wonderful, and I do not think there is any other place on Earth where one can experience an American summer that feels so classic and timeless. The people are great. I have met so many amazing staff and campers from all around the world. Location is a perfect.
Cons
The hours and days can wear on you as the summer progresses, but that's nothing a little nap, or a quick kayak on the lake can't fix. The experience is something that has paid dividends to me tenfold over the years. On the surface summer camp may sound simple. It is not. Summer camp in a large operation consisting of numerous moving parts that must work in perfect synchronicity for everything to function. Camp people are some of the most creative, resilient and fun people. That is exclusively attributed to the environment that camp provides. When things do get stressful (and there is stress), I just look at where I am...in the middle of the woods on a beautiful lake in New Hampshire. Much better than being inside an office looking out a window (if you even have one) all day. Soooo not really a con, but what can I say? Camp Winaukee is a great place to be whether you are a child or adult.
