Pros

Good people, working remotely, gym reimbursement up to $100

Cons

Right after Canoe got their new CTO from Blackstone company things started to get ugly for people who actually cared about the product. CTO brings up new people who are not qualified for the job without even letting a team to interview them and then when they are somehow magically hired - experienced people are pushed to teach and train them just to be then called equal team members. Definitely doesn’t look equal to us! Another thing that CTO is doing is basically emotionally harassing people for something he doesn’t like or approve. He doesn’t even try to be polite and he calls it “straightforward” which in reality is just being rude and inconsiderate of others. Company is definitely trying to save money by hiring cheap workforce and then having local employees coordinate their time with offshore people and have to start working at 6 am and CTO claims it’s how it’s supposed to be now!

Canoe Software Response

Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback with us, we appreciate and value your perspective and will absolutely incorporate it as we evolve and grow our teams and the Company. Canoe’s entire team deeply cares about the product, client, and employee experience, and we take feedback very seriously. To address each of your points transparently: Canoe maintains a rigorous interview process, including multiple technical aptitude, cultural fit, and leadership interviews with each prospective candidate. This results in each candidate interviewing with a minimum of 6 Canoe team members prior to any offer being extended, and there are no exceptions to this process. We take any feedback of emotional harassment very seriously, and as a result of this review we have interviewed multiple members of the team to get their perspective as to the way feedback is being given/received to ensure it is consistent with the values Canoe expects all employees to uphold. Canoe engages an offshore team to provide complementary skill sets and capabilities to our employees, however any offshore team schedules their hours and workday around our US-based employees, as we greatly value our employees’ work/life balance. Thank you again for your feedback. If you would like to discuss this further, I encourage you to raise it directly with your manager, the HR team or me directly. We strongly desire for every employee to have an exceptional and fulfilling work experience while they are a member of the Canoe team and we will continue to do whatever we can to ensure that now and in the future. - Jason Eiswerth, CEO

Pros

The people here genuinely care about your growth and development, and the industry itself is extremely dynamic and fast-paced so it's always exciting

Cons

No 401k match, and constant leadership changes, but that's expected from a startup

Pros

Remote flexibility, cool product to work on, $750 WFH Stipend and $100/month gym/wifi reimbursement

Cons

Recently, many people have been leaving the company. One reason being quiet layoffs that happen out of nowhere, and now you’re left with taking over that person’s workload with no help. Another reason is people are sick of dealing with the company’s incompetent nature and leadership’s lack of true leadership skills, so even the ones that have built out this startup from the start are leaving (that’s when you know it’s bad). Diversity is extremely low in this company, older white men lead the company and only talk about sports and try to intimidate others in efforts of covering up their insecurities of being a low-quality leader. The disconnect between the leadership team and the ones below is horrible. Leadership constantly jump into projects and mess everything up, and then leaves it to the rest of the team to fix it, then leadership comes back and asks why the quality of the work is bad. There is no clear direction for the company as of now, and it’s constant “putting out fires” in preparation for more fires to come. It’s really unfortunate because the product is great, and Canoe has a great advantage compared to its competitors, but the reason why it won’t be as successful is because of the team leading the initiatives. Leadership does not bother responding (or even listening) to what we all have to say, and it is extremely difficult to get a hold of any of them even though they claim they have an open-door policy. Many people have quit because they had no career progression path possible for them, because no one has time for each other!
