Pros

Since starting at Canvasman, I have learnt so much about an industry I previously knew nothing about. The product range is extensive and I find my role to be fast paced, interesting and every day is different. All the staff in both the workshop and offices are really friendly and easy going. There is the opportunity to progress within the company to different departments and define your own role, which is encouraged by Management. The Managers are all very approachable, look after their staff and work just as hard as everyone else. There is a real family feel here. You are given training, regular meetings to assess your progress and you are encouraged to suggest any ideas you have about the workplace, which is listened to and acted on accordingly. Other pros are that the workshop is close to rail and bus links, paid breaks, small kitchen with tea/coffee making facilities and microwave, free parking, paid fortnightly. I see myself still working here in the years to come and would recommend Canvasman highly.

Pros

If I'm honest I didn't feel there was any pros.

Cons

Gave me a trial knowing I had no experience in sewing, then rang me a few weeks later saying I have the job. After 3 days of being stood watching someone with very broken English, was then expected to make a full boat cover on my own and understand all diagrams which didn't even fit on the page given. I had the odd person come over and look over my shoulder but then would just get insulted saying I'm 'hard work' because I was struggling to get a material through the sewing machine. Because I was asking questions, people were getting annoyed with me and complaining to management. ( also members of staff lied saying they had taught me certain things when they hadn't at all). Then after being there one week I had my job threatened, and said if I didn't do better the next day il get the sack, baring in mind I had left my other job for this job and have a car and flat to pay for. Completed a whole side panel for a boat cover the next day and because a few stitches were out of line that was there reason to give me the sack. A lot of people working here are foreign, and they tend to speak to each other in there language which I also found quite intimidating if I'm honest. Do not recommend at all.. Well unless you are looking for a week of work.

Pros

I’m amazed by how much I like this work. As a person who didn’t have any experience with sewing industry I’ve been giving a chance to learn. I’m so happy I’ve decided to apply for this position as sewing seems to be something what I’m enjoying a lot. Every day you can learn something new, and you can see how fast your confidence is growing. Even if you do something wrong there is no punishment but support from coworkers an Menagement. Production Menager is always for you if you need her. You can feel her support and she knows how to motivate you when you struggling. MD is listening and helpful as well and he’s working as hard as rest of the team. Team is so lovely. Everyone is helpful and very nice. For this company it doesn’t matter how old you are, which nationality you’re (me), colour of your skin etc... there is always place for people who wants to learn and grow with company. This place makes me feel very good and working for this Company is a pleasure.
