Pros

- Talented, hardworking employees at the individual contributor level - People genuinely want to do good work - Solving a major problem that the world is facing today - The company could succeed with competent leadership

Cons

Leadership is deeply dysfunctional (CEO primarily) and is the primary reason this company struggles. The co-founders consistently demonstrate poor decision-making, lack of accountability, and an inability to communicate clearly or respectfully. Strategies change without explanation, priorities are constantly reversed, and employees are expected to absorb the fallout of leadership’s mistakes. There is a culture of blame rather than ownership. When things go wrong—as they frequently do—responsibility is pushed downward instead of addressed at the leadership level. Feedback is either ignored or quietly punished, creating a toxic environment where people are afraid to speak honestly. Morale is extremely low, burnout is common, and the high turnover is treated as normal rather than as a warning sign. Leadership appears disconnected from day-to-day realities and shows little concern for the long-term impact of their decisions on employees.

Pros

The people at CarbonChain are genuinely talented, kind, and hardworking. I worked with smart teammates who cared about doing quality work and supporting each other.

Cons

Unfortunately, the leadership culture made the experience difficult and ultimately unsustainable. Long-term goals and strategic priorities changed frequently, and the direction often felt inconsistent from one quarter to the next. The culture could feel high-stress, and leadership did not always seem open or receptive to feedback. While the team itself was strong, turnover was extremely high over the past year, and it seemed closely connected to leadership decisions and the overall instability. It was disappointing to see so many capable people leave, especially given how much potential the company had.

Pros

A wonderful group of like-minded individuals have built a culture of collaboration and support.

Cons

The founders do not wish to foster the environment of collaboration the employees have built. Coming from Amazon - which they emphasize - the CEO and COO value profit over plant and people. They do not respect their staff or value their work. They struggle with discussing challenging topics. Honest, out-spoken people are targeted. Especially women. There is no career growth opportunities. They demand an entrepreneurial spirit, yet cannot recognise it. The turn over rate should tell you everything. Further, the product pivots every few months. They struggle to sell what they do not understand. They also struggle to hire. Work loads are unfathomable. Stress is high. Paranoia runs deep.
