Pros

I had the opportunity to work at CareerFoundry Berlin, and my experience was a mix of positive and negative aspects. **Positive Aspects:** 1. **Great Work Environment:** The work environment at CareerFoundry was inclusive, collaborative, and supportive. Colleagues were always willing to help and share their knowledge, creating a conducive atmosphere for learning and growth. 2. **Meaningful Work:** Being part of a team that helps individuals transition into tech careers was rewarding. Seeing students progress through the program and land jobs in the industry was fulfilling and made me proud to be a part of the organization. 3. **Professional Development Opportunities:** CareerFoundry offers various opportunities for professional development, including workshops, conferences, and skill-building sessions. These initiatives helped me enhance my skills and stay updated with industry

Cons

trends. **Negative Aspects:** 1. **Job Insecurity:** Unfortunately, job security at CareerFoundry was a concern. The company underwent restructuring, leading to layoffs, including my own. This instability created uncertainty and impacted morale among employees. 2. **Communication Challenges:** At times, there were communication gaps between management and employees, particularly regarding changes within the company. Clearer communication channels could have helped alleviate some of the stress and confusion during periods of transition. 3. **Limited Growth Opportunities:** While there were opportunities for professional development, advancement within the company seemed limited. This lack of upward mobility may deter some employees from committing to long-term careers at CareerFoundry. Overall, my experience at CareerFoundry Berlin was positive in terms of the work environment, meaningful work, and professional development opportunities. However, concerns about job security, communication, and growth opportunities should be addressed to improve the employee experience.

Pros

This might be my dream job. I love this job because it's an extremely flexible work-from-anywhere position. You also get to work with ambitious students who truly appreciate your feedback. Here's how it works. You get to choose how many students you want. I believe the minimum is 10 students and the maximum is 40. You need special permission to take on more than that. If you factor in inactive student, students will submit between one and two assignments per week - my students submit on average 4.5 assignments each per month. So, if you have 20 students, you'll get about 90 assignments in a month. You are paid by assignment. You get 15 euros per assignment that you approve. So if you approve 90 assignments, you'll get 1350 euros, or approximately $1590. If you have an above-average rating from students and you have an average submission response time of less than 8 hours, you'll earn a 10% bonus. How much work is it to give students feedback on their assignments? I calculated my current average to be 22min per assignment. Certain deliverables like wireframes take much longer, but still - it averages out to 22 minutes per assignment for me. So having 20 students (about 90 assignments/month) means you'll work about 33 hours a month, which is less than 8 hours a week. That's like... $48 an hour! That's pretty good. But don't forget to set aside an extra 15% of your income for the self-employment tax (which you pay on top of your regular income tax).

Cons

You are expected to answer student questions related to the course, but you're not paid for the time you spend answering those questions. It can sometimes be a problem when you get a particularly chatty or attention-starved student who comes to you for every little inquiry instead of first consulting Google. CareerFoundry will happily give you time off if you request it. But in general, there are no days off. You're expected to respond to students within 24 hours. This means working Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays (tutors do get off a couple weeks in Dec by default, which is nice). I just wish Sundays were officially "off" days, and tutors could choose to work on Sundays or not. CareerFoundry offers the 10% bonus for tutors who have an average response time of 8 hours or less. This is awesome, but also stressful. I get many (maybe most) student assignments submitted in the evening or night. I feel like I have to stay up late to do them, overwise my average response time will go up. I need that 10% bonus to offset that darn freelance tax lol. Lastly, if you request more students, they won't be assigned to you right away. You'll only get a couple new students every few weeks. You have to build up your number of students very slowly. I understand the reasoning behind it, but it's still pretty annoying.

Pros

Cons

It can take a while to build up a decent size group of students in your portfolio.
