Excellent coworkers; I *wanted* to go to work - Library Technician Carlsbad City Library Employee Review

Pros

Coworkers and supervisors all have a great attitude. It made it fun and enjoyable to work there. Supervisors trust their employees to know their jobs and do them, so there's no micro-management. If you have a question about your work, even a stupid one, nobody judges you for asking. They prefer to hire up from the inside, and with constant turnover, there's always a new position opening up above you that's worth applying to.

Cons

Like most libraries, they don't pay well enough to make a career out of it unless you're at the top. There was constant turnover. A recent round of promotions included some screwy business that ended with disagreements among managers and several people leaving. Hard to know if what went on was entirely ethical, as nobody from management talked about what happened.

Pros

The librarians here are so kind and knowledgeable. They welcomed me as a new tech with no experience and are beyond helpful to answer my questions and make sure I felt comfortable. The training was extensive and very detailed too. Can't wait for what's to come!

Cons

No benefits for part timers, and no full time opportunities Also difficult to transition from part time to full time

Pros

Patrons are nice, you really get to know the regulars. As an hourly staff member, you're on the public desk for all your shifts since the full time librarians seem to think it's beneath them.

Cons

Some of the supervisors could really use some training. Director is rarely seen or heard. No opportunity to move into FT work.
