Pros
Nice floor staff and department managers. Usually good opportunities to pick up shifts, especially during holiday periods. Most casual staff are very good to work with. Some managers and supervisors will reward staff who work hard.
Cons
Freezing cold back of house areas in winter. Managers reward guests who are rude or threatening to staff by giving them discounts. Certain departments are often understaffed. HR deliberately conceal the fact that casual employees are entitled to holiday pay like full-time staff, so if you don’t email HR asking for your holidays they will keep the money you’re owed and not tell you. Often unfair workloads. 30-minute breaks sometimes split into two mini 15-minute breaks, not allowing for proper rest away from the floor. Excessive food waste that could be donated to homeless shelters instead. Breaks sometimes given just before the shift ends. One manager made me cry for allowing people with dietary requirements to have an alternative meal because there was nothing on the Olive Tree buffet they could eat while still paying full price and another (also Olive Tree) privately messaged me on Whatsapp asking me to buy from his wife's business.
