Pros

Smart staff; good mission; global reach and reputation. If you can accomplish something within CARE, it has a wide reach (70 countries or so). CARE can have major influence as a well-respected actor. The employees are generally extremely educated and competent at the international level.

Cons

Constant strategic reviews; not strong directional leadership; cumbersome operating model that adds too much in the way of costs. There are aspirations to be more nimble and support social movements, but this is unlikely to happen while the organization is set up to deliver on traditional development projects. The staff in some country offices, while generally competent people, do not necessarily have skill sets that line up well with the way CARE now aspires to work: learning, advocacy, social movements.
