Pros

Working at Centro Community Partners has been a deeply meaningful and purpose-driven experience. At the heart of the organization is its commitment to vulnerable communities, but within the team there is also genuine support and opportunity. The internal culture promotes empathy, collaboration, and professional growth, enabling integrated learning and teamwork across all areas. Despite the changes and external pressures that nonprofits faced this year, Centro worked hard to maintain internal stability and protect both the team and the entrepreneurs. The organization did everything possible to provide support, clarity, and continuity of services. In the midst of a challenging context, working at Centro reaffirmed the value of its mission, the institution’s resilience, and the importance of serving with dignity and commitment.

Cons

Working at Centro Community Partners is not “difficult” in a negative sense—rather, it is demanding in purpose and deeply meaningful. Being part of this mission means understanding that supporting vulnerable communities requires sensitivity, consistency, and a genuine vocation for service. It is not a space for those seeking financial gain or a traditional corporate rhythm; it is for people who want to transform lives through their daily work. The work can feel intense at times, not because the organization falls short, but because the realities we address are complex: immigrant families, single mothers, individuals without access to resources, and constantly shifting external conditions. This requires flexibility, emotional resilience, and the ability to adapt to urgent needs or unexpected changes. Resources—like in most nonprofits—are not unlimited. Because of that, creativity, collaboration, and teamwork are essential. There are seasons with higher operational demands, especially when coordinating multiple cohorts across different cities. However, these challenges do not diminish the experience; if anything, they strengthen the sense of purpose and highlight the importance of the work. Anyone joining Centro must know they are stepping into a profound social mission where every small win, every success story, and every entrepreneur uplifted validates the effort. In essence: it is not demanding in a negative way—it is work with soul, and it requires a sincere commitment to service, empathy, and economic justice.

Pros

You’ll work with smart, passionate coworkers who genuinely care about the mission. The schedule is flexible, and you’ll gain a ton of experience by wearing multiple hats — which is great if you’re trying to level up fast.

Cons

The CEO is corrupt, condescending, and constantly belittles women. He takes zero accountability for his actions. HR and the board only exist to protect him — they won’t address the toxic culture and will gaslight you into thinking you’re the problem if you speak up. Almost the entire staff has been replaced with overseas contractors, most of whom are paid low wages and are unfamiliar with the local community. For a nonprofit that claims to serve local entrepreneurs, it’s completely disconnected. The CEO made this shift purely to cut costs, laying off dedicated employees in the process. The result is a fragmented team, poor communication, and leadership that’s totally out of touch with the people they claim to support.
