Pros

Faculty are dedicated to their students and intellectual pursuits. Teaching schedules are often flexible for tenured faculty. Students truly appreciate the faculty who care about them. Support services are increasing in scope and depth. Strong faculty union that supports adjuncts as well as full time.

Cons

Faculty are blamed for everything that is negative about the college. Increasing levels of administration keep the president at more than arms' distance from faculty and staff. We've gone 5-7 years at a stretch without raises and then get a token 2.5% (current contract). The same group of 10 - 15 women volunteer to do the majority of non-teaching work. Sexism is alive and well. Still too few faculty/staff of color. Lack of high academic standards at area high school means most students are woefully underprepared for college.

Pros

The position offers meaningful hands-on writing experience and the chance to contribute to real campus stories. The environment is encouraging, deadlines are reasonable, and the team genuinely wants students to grow as writers. The flexible scheduling makes it easy to balance coursework and job responsibilities.

Cons

Some project guidelines could be clearer, especially for new writers learning the expectations. Access to editors or faculty mentors can vary depending on staff availability.
