Work here only in early career, pay is too low for mid-senior career - Marketing Chapman University Employee Review

Pros

Great benefits, beautiful campus, mostly friendly staff. Like any university, Chapman is constantly changing. This is great for those in entry-level or early career positions, because you will learn a lot by wearing many hats. Most departments are under-staffed, so you'll also end up doing work that is at the level of a position above you. While this becomes frustrating since you aren't compensated for it, it looks good on a resume and you'll want to find a new job after working at Chapman for a couple years anyway.

Cons

Low pay. You will be paid far under market value, so why not use your skills somewhere you'll be properly compensated? There is not much room for promotion. Like many of these reviews have stated, Chapman plays favorites. Most people are promoted by default after working at Chapman for a long time. Some people in mid-level management are young with no management training. They bring their drama attitude to work and create a petty, childish work environment by holding grudges and speaking poorly about their coworkers. There isn't much room for advancement. Management says it supports professional development, but it doesn't. The university's budget is tight and all the pay goes to those at the executive level only. EQUITY DOES NOT EXIST AT CHAPMAN.

Pros

They try to retain staff for many years and progressively promote from within. Their staff in the academics do care about student success and strive to help them graduate, however:

Cons

HR is a total dumpster. Useless. Unkind, Unprofessional and actively are trying to save a few dollars. All emails with HR has been unpleasant. I've stopped being any bit of courteous. Recently moving to in office 5 days without enough office spaces to force people to leave or quit. They want to save as money as possible. By hiring within they don't hire outside of personal friendships such as the entire executive cabinet. This allows for echo chamber and not fresh perspectives. One of the whitest campuses both in students and staff. Students are subpar. Very mentally unwell, complain about going to class and being docked attendance points for having colds or just skipping. I feel so bad for the professors that put up with the poor behavior. Some are overly privileged from wealth yet complain about the price of tuition. It's a private school and you chose it or it was the only school they got into (not UCLA or USC). You're not welcomed if you are not white, cisgender, or straight. People do not understand transgender and they don't care to be allies. Being canceled or politically empathetic is not a thing here for staff or students. Faculty are pretty interesting. Combination of scholarship and working in the field professionals. They are protected as faculty which can't say the same for staff. Staff should unionize just to make the administration nervous. Openly white supremacist driven.
