Pros

The pros of working for Charter College included the ability to work from home, competitive pay, and comparable benefits. Additionally, some leadership was supportive and helpful, providing guidance and encouragement despite the high-pressure environment.

Cons

If you’re looking for a job at Charter College, be prepared for a high-pressure, high-turnover environment. The company sets unrealistic enrollment goals that increase each month, regardless of the market or student circumstances. You’re given just 30 days to meet a quota, and if you miss it, you’re immediately put on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP). Fail to meet the goal again, and you’re terminated—which explains why they are constantly hiring and firing employees. One of the biggest frustrations is their lack of advertising. Instead of investing in legitimate marketing strategies, they rely on purchased leads from questionable sources. These aren’t prospective students actively looking for education; they’re often people who just clicked on something without realizing what they were signing up for. This leads to poor lead quality and makes it incredibly difficult to convert them into enrollments. Additionally, the student population faces major barriers to enrollment. Many are from underserved areas in California and often fall into one of the following categories: • DACA recipients who don’t qualify for financial aid • Students in loan default, making them ineligible for financial aid • Individuals with felonies or serious misdemeanors, which can disqualify them from programs like Medical Assisting Despite these challenges, Charter College expects employees to enroll a high number of students into just three available certificate programs in California. Rather than adjusting expectations or offering better support, they simply increase enrollment targets every month, making success nearly impossible. The certificate programs are upwards of 24k for low paying careers. Ultimately, Charter College operates with a churn-and-burn mentality—both for students and employees. If you’re considering working here, be prepared for constant pressure, little support, and a strong chance of being let go within a couple of months.
