Pros
There are a few real good people at cheapcaribbean.com that put their hearts into the company and are just solid people. The travel industry can be fun and certainly selling vacations to beautiful places should be amazing. If you have time to go yourself. The office space looks nicer with the new paint and cubes.
Cons
Right now cheapcaribbean.com is in a strange place. Our new CEO is, in my opinion, in over his head. His leadership style and tactics are dated and he seems to lean on consultants and past co-workers (now as consultants because they are unemployed) more than using his own intellect and experience. The biggest miss is that he has loyal, knowledgeable, skilled and passionate people right under his nose already working at cheapcaribbean. Many are still trying to weather the ALG merger storm. Today there are more consultants than employees; at least it feels that way. The consultants (we call them the Bob's) are also taking the information the employees are giving them and feeding it back to the CEO as their own ideas or not even trying to do their due diligence to speak to the employees that have the experience and knowledge. Honestly its a real mess. The culture and culture work is a little fake and contrived. Feels like the company is just trying to hold on to some shred of what the culture was formulated to be under past management. Culture is organic and not formulaic. The other major con is the underlying technology platform and the development resources. The system is 10 or so years old with no modern functionality and is extremely limited on areas like mobile, SEO, content management, contract management and pricing flexibility. In my humble opinion, it could be a year and a half or more away when cheapcaribbean sees a modern platform and a CMS to really elevate the business and make the necessary changes many of us have been working towards for years. Underlying it all cheapcaribbean doesn't have the right development skills in house and we cant seem to pick the right vendors or contractors to make positive steps forward (outsourcing to the Ukraine? Really?). A new brand identity and better digital marketing strategy wont fix the tech issues.
