Pros

- People smile at work! - Fantastic benefits - Senior leaders are visible and approachable - Modern, quirky and practical HQ/office in a great location At last, a place where I look forward to coming to work rather than dreading it and wondering what awaits me. Checkatrade is transforming and growing rapidly, with many new opportunities being created for internal and external applicants. There's a palpable sense of excitement about the growth journey we are on and we have clearly benefitted from being part of the HomeServe group of companies. People matter and are treated as individuals and while it's becoming a bigger company the small company feel remains.

Cons

- Lots of change happening very quickly means more and more meetings

Pros

- Great company to work for - benefits are great, holiday days higher than average, WPA access, gym, private healthcare etc - Fast paced with bias for action - senior management all come from very impressive backgrounds, meaning professionalism and output are strong

Cons

- It's not for everyone - but that's okay, if you enjoy autonomy, being judged by output/actions, this company is for you

Pros

Colleagues of the highest calibre Decent bonus

Cons

I genuinely want this business to succeed, which is probably why some of the recent decisions have been difficult to watch unfold. At times, it can feel like leadership is building the plane while flying it - which, to be fair, is not uncommon in fast-moving companies, but it does create uncertainty for the people trying to keep everything running day to day. The steady stream of disappearing colleagues has also had an impact on morale. When teams become smaller but workloads stay the same (or grow), burnout becomes a very real risk. And while AI is undoubtedly useful, it’s still not a substitute for experienced people, collaboration, and institutional knowledge. I don’t need this business to act like we’re one big family. But I do want clarity, respect, and the ability to do good work in a healthy environment. Respect and psychological safety are two things not enjoyed at Checkatrade currently, at least as far as I can gather from those I’ve spoken to.
