Pros
The best thing about working for Chemist Warehouse was the retail staff. Most are friendly and easy-going and I still have many friends from my time of working in their stores. The company wide Christmas parties are always fun too.
Cons
The main issue with working for CWH is management. There is a culture of not trusting staff and I have seen managers conduct locker searches. Staff must scan in and out for breaks so that management can monitor how long they are gone for. There is a general air of disapproval if you come into work or your lunch break a minute late. Retail managers seem to think they have absolute power; many exercise favouritism and bullying, and those who often work the hardest are not acknowledged or rewarded. Head office regularly drop into stores to conduct store checks or to assist with things like renovations etc. They invariably come into stores with an arrogance and sense of seniority and are generally unfriendly towards staff. Of course there are exceptions to this but most head office staff behave this way. Salary is also not great, with retail staff only being paid at the minimum award rate. Management also tend to hire a number of young staff so as to save money on their salary budgets. This results in older staff (20 years and over) having to fight for shifts so that they can earn enough money.
