Pros

* The company has a great reputation. It's nice to work somewhere that people genuinely LOVE. * There's lots of growth. New faces and plenty of opportunities to move upward and laterally. Almost every team has new positions. * We have some really exciting technical challenges to work on. New technology, strong investment in systems and architecture. Tech teams are given a lot of leeway to make decisions independently. * The company is actively making changes to improve leadership, collaboration, and culture. * Work life balance is what you make of it. (this can be a pro or a con) If you want to get ahead here fast, you can put in as much extra time and effort as you want. It will be noticed and appreciated. * Working from home is a standard in Engineering. Our teams regularly have at least a couple of people working remotely almost every day.

Cons

* The transition between startup and large company is hard and Chewy is no exception. The legacy monolith structure is brittle and requires a lot of terrible processes and manual effort just to "keep the lights on," let alone add big features. * There's more red tape to get things done than there ought to be due to the fragility of the systems and organization of the teams which creates too much cross-functional dependencies to get things done. * Decisions are still often made with emotion and squeaky wheels rather than with data and a scientific approach. This is a problem from the very top all the way to the very bottom. This is sloooowly starting to change, but it can be frustrating when important projects and thoughtfully orchestrated roadmaps are derailed by the latest fire or "must have feature." * Chewy's compensation and reward structure could use some updates to be more competitive.

Pros

I am an artist and I get to do an art-related job. The schedule is flexible when things pop up. I get health insurance and 401k and a lot of free food, and there is free gym access in the office building. The people I work with are all generally very cool, friendly, and/or fun to work with.

Cons

The pay rate is below the industry standard for production artists. I am not able to afford a place of my own. I live with my parents and I work another job to supplement my income. I am basically surviving and able to pay all my bills, but I would not be able to live a full life on my own with the pay rate as it is now. The work culture portrays itself as progressive and inclusive place but it is the typical corporate toxic environment.
