Some great people, terrible administrators - Librarian Chicago Public Library Employee Review

Pros

I love working with the community. It can be very rewarding. Decent salary but doesn't cover high cost of living in the city. Flexible schedule with decent pto but bad hours weekly. Scheduled 8 -9 pm twice a week, Saturdays and Sunday twice a month.

Cons

Disconnected top down management with little to no respect for the employees that do all the heavy lifting. People get to the top of titled positions to earn large salary, disappear from staff and any library duties while one assumes playing politics with mayoral staff other upper management or just doing nothing as they have not had to report to physical locations since early 2020. No one handles complaints or public incidents. Everything is forcibly swept under the rug and management discourages employees from working together to create better public relations.
