Pros

Reasonably good pay, decent benefits, vacation time etc.. Pension plan killed now only a 403K. I can only address the IT department.

Cons

LOTS of IT staff coming & going. Generally a good company that totally fails to police its managers! HR is a toothless tiger does zero for reports of hostile work environment, unfair treatment, abuse. HR told me they "sometimes" do exit interviews with departing employees. Only given option with manager problems was to appeal AFTER being fired! Saw many 5-10 or more year employees depart. Seems like no one cares or notices the turnover. LOTS of "re-orgs" usually shifting same core of poor managers around. Good work is not appreciated or rewarded. Annual employee opinion surveys are a joke. No matter how bad the survey the same managers remain year after year. No real career paths. Work/Life balance is unimportant to your management. "GOOD" Managers/ Directors don't hang around for long... If you are a young & sharp IT person go elsewhere...you won't want to stay at Childrens.

Pros

-great managers -non-interpreting staff very familiar working with an interpreter -policies and expectations set for most situations -exceptionally developed department (which includes a senior director) relative to other hospitals, which often lack even a basic interpreting department

Cons

-work volume; often few breaks, definitely not enough to do anything other than work-related tasks (e.g., study for class, make a personal phone call) -inflexible schedule -work flow heavily dependent on coworker proactivity -leadership structure (managers over leads over interpreters) can result in micromanagment
