Pros

Offer a good benefit package.

Cons

Upper management is disconnected from what is occurring on campus, therefor a serious lack of support is present for staff to be able to address the at times difficult behaviors the clients present. The line staff need additional training on how to engage with the clients and should be held accountable in doing so. In this case," idol hands are the devil's work," truly applies. The clients are often board and left to their own devices, which as most who work with youth know, is never going to produce positive results. Few opportunities for advancement in the lower paying positions.

The campus now has an Activities Coordinator, who plans for activities for the youth throughout the week to keep the clients engaged. Upper management is meeting with the Residential Counselors and the Program Supervisors on a regular basis to keep the lines of communication open and to address issues in the moment. Training on topics relevant to the care of the clients is required twice a month and additional training and coaching is available from the Program Supervisors and the Training Manager whenever Residential Counselors reach out. As in any organization, the agency is a pyramid, with the line staff being the largest group. There are avenues for advancement, however, the turnover in those positions is slower and it is a matter of timing to take advantage of the opportunities to advance.

Pros

Gaining Experience Great relationship with some of the fellow staff

Cons

Upper management doesn't care about the youth, they are literally just dollar signs to them. They play favorites with staff and upper management starts a lot of drama between the supervisors below them, watching and giggling like it's a game. It's like high school, groups click together and management will ice you as soon as you don't agree with their unethical antics.
