Pros

- Remote - Unlimited PTO - Cool product idea

Cons

- Engineers were expected to be able to work on any part of the system with not much specialization. Hopefully that changed recently - The company is only interested in what you can do for them and not you developing in your career as an engineer, so any career development is up to you - A small group of engineers retains most of the legacy knowledge but are extremely busy as a result - Tech and product leadership leaves a lot to be desired, this engineering culture felt more like a 90s sales company with middle managers that delegate their job duties and not like a tech company in '23 - Mixed messaging regarding what you should focus on. Support or roadmap? Roadmap or support? - Watched a lot of really good talent leave because of all of these things

Pros

- Great flexibility with Unlimited PTO & being Fully Remote (with an option to work in the office) - Benefits: There's a wide variety of options to fit most of your needs - Product: I do believe that Chowly is one of a kind & has a great product & line of services they offer to restaurants - People/Culture: I've made some of the best connections while at Chowly, with colleagues I consider friends now. Outside of that, there was always a willingness for other members of the team to help you when you needed it. - Growth Opportunities: You're never locked in your role. If you aspire for more, you can put in the work to obtain them. During my 3/4yr tenure, I acquired 3 promotions & excelled in every aspect of my various roles.

Cons

- Focus & Management: Chowly struggles in this area. During my tenure 3/4yr tenure I witnessed nearly annual "restructures". Every restructure saw the company go in a different direction than before. At one point in a span of a year, a new department was created (one restructure), just for lay offs due to "eliminating redundancies" (one restructure) & later a disbanding of the same department (one restructure). This department had amazing talent & some of the best top performers, but there was a mismanagement in the team & no clear goals & support for them. - Lack of Diversity: Chowly doesn't have many people of color & doesn't put in the effort to celebrate the unique backgrounds that contribute to the company's growth. I believe it would be beneficial for them to expand their network & recruiting by attending conferences like, Latinas in Tech Summit & AfroTech.
