Pros

Great products, interesting history, and environmentally sound company.

Cons

-Minimum training, with maximum expectations. -Low pay at $19 an hour (not enough to survive on in Portland, which requires more than $25 an hour). Minimal raises, between $0.50 to $1.00 annual raises. -Bad work environment: When I first joined, my immediate coworkers told me to my face they were betting whether I would "make it or not". It felt like a toxic frat-bro environment, and I genuinely didn't feel comfortable or enjoy a single day working at Chris King. The sales team was the most negative and least helpful team I've ever personally worked with. I couldn't even ask simple questions without getting either a snarky, sarcastic, or unhelpful response. This was usually over product knowledge that I wasn't provided in the first place, or didn't have the experience and repetition to know about. It got to the point where I wouldn't talk to my immediate coworkers all day because they were straight-up unfriendly to me. -Management: Corporate, distant, unhelpful. I was given less than a week's notice to "improve my performance", prior to being let go. This was about product knowledge that I was given insufficient training for. They also "cited me" for issues that I had corrected many weeks prior after being provided feedback. It genuinely felt like I was being set up for failure and then I was let go suddenly without so much as a goodbye. I can't stress enough how bad working at Chris King has been over the last few months, and I feel relieved to no longer be in such a toxic work environment. It's a shame, because the products are awesome and the company has a ton of great history.

Thank you for your feedback. We value the input of all our employees, past and present, to help us improve. We take workplace culture seriously and strive to maintain a positive and respectful environment. We regret that you felt uncomfortable. We will look into your concerns internally to ensure our values are upheld. It is also important to note that we cannot address issues without receiving feedback, and we did not receive any from you during your tenure. Regarding training, the same process that has been successful for current and former employees in the same role, with varying product knowledge, was utilized. We are sorry this was not successful for you, and we wish that would have been communicated to us. In terms of management and performance evaluations, we provide timely and constructive feedback, and we aim for transparency in our performance management. We are proud of the quality of our products and the legacy of our company. While we regret that your experience did not meet your expectations, it is important to acknowledge that not every role is the right fit for every individual. Again, thank you for your feedback and we do wish you the best of luck with your career and future employment.

Pros

The workplace environment at Chris King is one of the best. The work life balance is great. Benefits have always been great, especially if you are into cycling. Sets a high standard for manufacturing, focusing not only on quality, but efficiency and environmental impact. Managers provide a great balance of freedom and guidance without micromanaging.

Cons

The pay could be better and in some positions there is little to no room for advancement. Losing the Cafe was a big loss to benefits. Hope it comes back!
