Pros

I have been serving with Christian Union for the past year, and I can honestly say it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my professional and ministry career. The staff are deeply encouraged to prioritize their relationship with God, including taking one day each month to seek Him through prayer, reflection, and spiritual renewal. The leadership model developed by the founder is unlike anything I have experienced elsewhere. It is intentionally designed to cultivate leadership capacity while keeping the gospel and God’s purposes at the center. There is a strong emphasis on seeing God transform lives, and it is a privilege to work alongside students who are genuinely pursuing His calling for their lives. One of Christian Union’s greatest strengths is its commitment to reaching students for Christ. Every effort is measured by its effectiveness in advancing the mission of introducing students to Jesus and helping them grow in their faith. The organization is led by individuals who are deeply committed to prayer, fasting, sharing the gospel, and spiritual discipleship. The people are exceptional to work with. The team consists of individuals from diverse backgrounds who are united by a common commitment to excellence. There is a strong emphasis on both spiritual health and professional development. Leadership is committed not only to helping staff grow in their roles but also to supporting their personal spiritual formation and long-term effectiveness in ministry. Every Wednesday morning, the leadership team gathers for prayer for each staff member. This intentional practice reflects a genuine culture of care, where leaders seek God’s guidance and blessing for those they serve. There is a sincere desire to see every employee flourish in their calling and become all that God has created them to be.

Cons

As with any mission-driven organization, the work can occasionally feel demanding due to the magnitude of the vision and the opportunities before us. However, this challenge stems from a deep commitment to ensuring that no opportunity to reach students with the gospel is overlooked. The organization remains focused on welcoming and guiding students into a life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ.

Pros

Christian Union is an outstanding place to work if you are serious about both professional excellence and spiritual growth. I have been consistently challenged to grow in my skills, leadership capacity, and faith. The organization has a clear and compelling mission: developing godly Christian leaders to transform culture, and, by the grace of God, see revival across our nation’s most influential university campuses and our nation. If you desire to be part of a team that is committed to seeing revival and lasting cultural impact through the next generation of leaders, Christian Union is an excellent choice. The work is meaningful, the vision is big, and you will be stretched both professionally and spiritually in the best possible ways. I highly recommend working here to anyone who wants to invest their career in something that truly matters.

Pros

Above average pay for a ministry role. Higher pay than other similar organizations. Amazing coworkers.

Cons

The CEO, Matt Bennett. Many current and former employees have concluded that he is not saved. He is a Matthew 7 type of person. He does many mighty things in the name of Jesus, but does not know Jesus. He is hyper controlling, often cruel, rude, and heartless. His beliefs range from soundly evangelical to heretical depending on the topic. His legalistic approach creates two cultures within the organization. The first is the false appearance that people are on board and excited and don’t think they work for a maniac. The second culture is the real one. Where employees have transparent conversations with each other when the CEO or his loyalists aren’t around. There’s a sense of trauma bonding that takes place with current and former employees who have been subject to the CEO’s spiritual abuse. The gnarly NDA’s that employees are required to sign should be your first clue that some dark stuff is gonna go down and you’re gonna need to talk about it to maintain your sanity. This organization is in effect the personal cult of Matt Bennett. It’s historically been funded by his family, so he’s been able to maintain control because people are aware that if he was removed, he would take the funding with him and the organization would close. Still, many have thought it might be better to close, in that case, rather than continue to harm people. But like a bad addiction or any abusive relationship, it takes many attempts to get out and no one has the heart to fight hard enough to remove him.
