      Pros

      Despite decent pay, incentives (gift cards and apparel), and a supportive direct manager, Chrysalis Center's mission is a façade.

      Cons

      Chrysalis Center parades as a nonprofit but is blatantly money focused. Their Freshplace food pantry has absurd eligibility requirements, forcing clients to work while also being available during working hours for case management services. This makes it nearly impossible to help the "up to 100 families" they claim and leads to significant food waste. Executives prioritize real estate over clients, creating a toxic work environment with high turnover. Subpar conditions persist, with little support for staff and ineffective responses to employee concerns.

      Pros

      The work happening every day at Chrysalis Center is truly amazing. Our Case Managers work diligently to ensure clients’ needs are met and goals are achieved. The Food Hub — which includes Freshplace Food Pantry and Urban Roots Hydroponics Grow Center — is also doing incredible work each day to help feed and support our community. I am grateful to have the opportunity to learn and grow here at Chrysalis Center. The TCC (Training & Conference Center) is a wonderful space to rent for nonprofit events and seminars, with hand-crafted food prepared by students from the La Cocina Culinary Arts Training Program at Chrysalis Center. True mission based work.

      Like many mission-driven organizations, adapting to shifting priorities is a regular part of the work.
