Pros

You get recognition from being with a large insurer and their is more company investment in the training program in comparison to other carriers. Coworkers are nice people

Cons

There is too much bottlenecking from the top down. No one really has any authority, even local management. Hazing type tactics are used during training to “test” you. They justify their actions to see who is “strong” mentally by putting a ton of pressure on students to finish tasks on a short deadlines and making fun of you in front of the training class if you don’t understand something. When they should really spend their time actually training and educating young college grads to fully understand the material and prepare them to understand the systems and arduous processes. It’s discouraging to see the lack of diversity within senior management. I’ve never experienced any senior management trying to better understand me or my POC peers. During the height of the pandemic - we only watched HR produced trainings for DEI. Management did not address any issues occurring in the world and did not seem to take the opportunity to bring our team closer together by having honest conversations. They like to say that they staff “Leanly” but really that just means there’s too much work and not enough headcount. Systems are dated and processes are so tedious and redundant that it makes it hard to work efficiently. No one questions why things are done the same way for 10+ years, they just do as they’re told. There is hardly any culture or personal team bonding that is driven by management. Management hardly says hello or good morning to you when they walk in, they only speak to you if they need something. Management does not prioritize your time, only theirs. There have been countless instances when discussions need to be had but they do not speak to you during work hours, they only speak to you towards the end of the day and keep you at the office or on the phone past normal office hours (with no consideration if you even have plans).

Pros

Global reach, brand name/reputation, nice technology equipment and solid networking. Opportunity for internal mobility. Good 401k match.

Cons

Incredibly slow systems and stifling bureaucracy. Culture is overall relaxed but not very hospitable, which is likely both a symptom and cause of a high-turnover environment. Raises are well below inflation. Moral does not seem considerably high and the bureaucratic nature of work hinders development. All of these factors combined negatively impact motivation. Very little open discussion about marketplace trends and tedious processes make the role feel very administrative despite being more analytical at other firms who have improved their systems. The firm has done a great job of diversifying across product lines and geographies, but a very poor job of talent retention and upgrading systems, which are the long-term tailwinds that’ll put Chubb at the forefront of the industry.
