Pros
As an employee, you get to work/attend the shows and they're often lovely. They promote from within occasionally. My co-workers were hilarious, hard-working, kind and caring people.
Cons
If you're not willing to sacrifice your time, life, energy, family, soul for the company, you are ostracized and criticized. There's a real lack of communication and an inordinate amount of passive aggressive leadership. Management frequently throws employees under the bus in order to save face with donors and volunteers. Administrative staff are the least valued people in the building. Their needs and concerns are not heard. They've lost so many good employees over the years as a result. Departments turn over every two years or so. Plus, they pay their employees less than other arts nonprofits in the area. It's unfortunate because there's so much potential for this to be a fun and collaborative workplace.
