Pros

Office and it’s view are nice. Not really a plus. I would say only pro is you woulnt remain jobless.

Cons

Old and outdated equipment. No room for growing/learning since Principal won’t take the risk. No raises/no benefits/unfairly salary Hourly paid job as a contract employee. No overtime paid even if you work overtime. Payment method was a written check that won’t be given ahead in case the 1st of 15th land on a weekend or holiday. If you are an intern you will be running office errands as dropping checks or picking up paperwork. They sometimes will tell you when to take lunch. No flexible schedule as only principal and one more employee have keys for the office. They won’t spent on a business email account or a full autodesk (revit/autocad) license if you are an entry level employee aka an intern. You would be literally sending emails from your personal email account.

Pros

Interesting clients means some fun projects and potential creative direction. Flexible client billing typical of small firm, means project pace and deadlines are usually open. Experienced principal, expert in project concept/cost estimate. Use revit

Cons

Principal prefers small staff with high turnover to hiring more qualified employees and to reduce payroll. Principal will garnish wages and demote employees without alerting them, and will fall through on promises of performance reviews and raises. I was let go without notice and my last paychecks wages were reduced. No project time lines. None. All deadlines are improvised by billing necessities. I only had a single active project on my desk. Projects are taken on as principal sees fit and responsibilities are alloted based on trust, meaning little room to move up. Single overworked project manager, overtly competitive for his position, probably due to high turnover. Principal lies to clients about project status with consultants, so as to reduce revision fees.
