Pros

Decent benefits and welfare in place. Processes are quite structured with the typical red tapes in a listed company. Strong advocate for women leadership and on sustainability. A lot of emphasis on training and there used to be many events before Covid. It is a good company to gain exposure, as well as being a 'retirement ground' with many long serving staff. Location is also convenient, just next to Raffles Place MRT. Work life balance is reasonable in most departments, where people are able to leave on time on most days.

Cons

Unfortunately with every good point comes numerous downsides. Salary/bonus was cut in recent years not just due to Covid but also about issues reported in the news. Management, or EXCO as we call them, announced that things will be better in 2023 but it didn't stop the avalanche of resignations that started since last year. Some new hires also don't stay long and you’ll hear the occasional rumour that certain roles were oversold during interviews. Culture shock is a common feedback from new staff. Avoid joining certain departments with high turnover rates. EXCO are largely out of touch with the ground, leading to the majority of employees feeling unengaged, especially new staff who have questioned on the lack of virtual gatherings/orientation sessions. Don't expect things to change given the passive approach to things prevalent in the culture. HR is pretty efficient in responding to work matters and focuses a lot on trainings but harassment cases are often pushed aside and ignored. It is ironic given all the HR awards that the company wins. Gossip is common in all organizations but what's unfortunate is that, instead of being role models, it is not uncommon to hear HR badmouthing people, including their own team members/HOD and more. What was said to 1 person during lunch spreads and what’s worse is that sensitive information like resignations are often leaked too, even to staff who have left the company. Some of these HR ladies who have been around for a while, are infamously termed as ‘gossip queens’ for their role in perpetuating a cycle of toxicity. It is sad that instead of working with internal stakeholders to build up a positive culture, certain HR members act to harm the goodwill that was created by themselves and do not seem to recognise the extent of how such negativity has influenced and affected perceptions and morale.

Pros

Overall a decent company to work for with reasonable benefits and salary.

Cons

An outdated, oldschool mindset is still very prevalent among many of the Heads. In some cases, favouritism plays a significant role in advancement, where promotions are influenced more by flattery and ingratiation than by actual performance. As a result, even subpar performers can be promoted if they align themselves with the right people and select only visible things to present but in actual fact been delegating all their work to others behind the scene without giving credits. This is how they survive to receive their long service.
